My Pet Is Missing. What do I do?

• Post to your Facebook page and ask friends to “share” the post
• Post in lost and found pet groups on Facebook
  • Lost and Found Pets Iron Range
  • Iron Range Lost and Found Pets
  • Alerting the Citizens of the Iron Range
  • Missing Pets in the Northland
  • The Retrievers
• If during regular shelter hours, call us at 218-741-7425
• Stop by to give the information in person, Tues. – Sun. noon – 5p.m.
• If after hours, call the shelter or Animal Control and leave a detailed message
• Notify your veterinary clinic and microchip company. Confirm that they have current contact information for you
• Place an ad in the Mesabi Tribune or the Hometown Focus
• Search your neighborhood every day until your pet is found
• Post notices with a photo throughout the neighborhood
• Talk to your neighbors and any neighborhood businesses
• Offering a reward may be helpful

FOLLOW UP

When your pet is found, remember to take down any notices you’ve posted online and around your neighborhood.

I FOUND A STRAY.  WHAT DO I DO?​

• Stop by to give the information in person, Tues. – Sun. noon – 5p.m.
• If after hours, Contact Animal Control or your local police department
• Post photo and description of the animal on Facebook
• Post notices with a photo throughout the neighborhood
• Talk to your neighbors and any neighborhood businesses​- many strays are found close to home. Try saving them from a trip to the shelter by asking people near the area the animal was found.

ANIMALS FOUND IN THE CITY OF VIRGINIA

• The City of Virginia has rescinded its animal contract with the Mesabi Humane Society and will be handling all animal services through the city. Please call City Hall for assistance.

HELP MHS REUNITE YOU WITH YOUR LOST COMPANION

• Contact Animal Control
• If during regular shelter hours, call us at 218-741-7425
• Stop by to give the information in person, Tues. – Sun. noon – 5p.m.
• We post all stray animals that are brought to the shelter on our Facebook Page
• All pet owners are encouraged to microchip their pet and keep the information updated to accelerate pet reunions
• All animals are scanned for a microchip when they arrive at the Mesabi Humane Society
• The shelter will contact the person whose information is registered to that microchip
• If a microchip has old information, MHS is not able to contact the current owner
• Mesabi Humane Society offers microchipping for animals for $20

IF YOUR ANIMAL IS FOUND:

​You will need to provide proof of ownership. You can show vet records and pictures of the pet as proof.

THE MHS FEE SCALE IS AS FOLLOWS:​

• $40.00 for the first day and $10.00 for each additional day
• If this is your second offence in one year, the fee is $55.00 for the first day and $10.00 for each additional day
• If this is your third offence in one year, the fee is $80.00 for the first day and $10.00 for each additional day
• If this is your 4th offence in one year, the fee is $105 for the first day and $10.00 for each additional day
